모란봉악단은 조선의 대표적인 전문 예술단체의 하나로, 국립교향악단, 은하수관현악단, 왕재산경음악단 등과 나란히 꼽힌다. 단원들은 평양에서 어린 시절부터 성악 교육을 받은 가수들로 이루어져 있다. 신년 경축 공연으로 널리 알려져 있으며, 국립공훈합창단 및 왕재산예술단과 합동 공연 무대에 함께 오르기도 하였다.
