A streaming archive of music from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, built from a large collection and written with a music-first editorial focus.
Juchify is an online catalogue and streaming library dedicated to music produced in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. It brings together recordings by professional ensembles such as the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, the Wangjaesan Light Music Band, the Moranbong Band, the State Symphony Orchestra and others, and presents them with catalogue data and editorial notes.
The collection behind the site is substantial. It draws on a large physical and digital archive of DPRK recordings, records and printed material built up over years, which is what makes it possible to present this catalogue in one place.
The site is bilingual. Every page is available in English and in Korean, with the Korean written in the Pyongyang cultural standard.
Editorial notes are written from the sources we hold rather than copied from the open web. These include DPRK periodicals and literature, among them the English-language magazine Korea Today and the literary journal Joson Munhak, alongside the recordings and printed material in the archive itself.
We aim to keep notes accurate to those sources. Where the material is thin on a particular ensemble, the note stays short instead of being padded with detail we cannot support, and compilation or category entries that are not real ensembles are left without a biography.
Juchify is a music archive. Editorial notes describe ensembles, their repertoire, their performances and their place in the music scene, and they keep the focus on the music rather than on political or ideological material.
If you find a factual error or a mis-transliterated title, we want to correct it against the source material.
